Sustainable Companies Combating Climate Change

On August 6th, the United Nations issued a report on climate change and how it’s affecting our Earth. Not surprisingly, the news isn’t good. In this press release, the Secretary-General said that the climate change crisis is a level code red. She explains: “The alarm bells are deafening, and the evidence is irrefutable: greenhouse gas emissions from fossil fuel burning and deforestation are choking our planet and putting billions of people at immediate risk. Global heating is affecting every region on Earth, with many of the changes becoming irreversible.” The report goes on to say that our Earth is rising 1.2 degrees in temperature each year, and though that may seem minimal, it has resulted in humans losing their lives, homes, and even entire livelihoods. Add to this the millions of animals that are dying due to rising water levels, deforestation, and pollution, and what we get is a future that looks very bleak indeed.

So, what can we do to combat this? Many, many things! Reducing our waste through reusable bags and containers, recycling our glass and plastic, using public transportation, eating vegetarian and vegan meals as much as possible, and turning off the water while we brush our teeth are some of the myriad of easy ways we can positively contribute to the fight against global warming.

Not only are people making these changes every day, but companies are too. Many cosmetics companies have completely reimagined the ingredients they use in their products and the way they package and send them to customers in order to be as environmentally friendly as possible. These brands realize that changing the future starts right now, and their missions speak directly to the fight against climate change. Check out the following companies that are ditching plastic and harmful toxins, opting instead for recyclable materials and natural ingredients in their products. These are brands you can fully support. Feel good knowing that a purchase from one of these brands gives back to Mother Earth in the process.

  2. Talk about sustainable and innovative! Your Izzy is an incredible new company that is taking reusable and zero waste to another level. It’s a carbon-neutral mascara that comes in a stainless steel tube. That tube is refillable up to 10,000 times and is mailed to you in reusable packaging. Essentially, you have your Izzy for life! They go even further by only producing their products within a 400-mile radius to reduce their carbon footprint, and they are able to reuse the water from their antibacterial cleaning process so that it isn’t dumped into the ocean or streams. Their mascara is vegan, cruelty-free, certified organic, and free of parabens, toxins, gluten, and more. If that isn’t enough, they donate a portion of their proceeds to National Forest Foundation, Her Justice, and Pencils of Promise, three organizations they feel are doing great things for the world. 3. Front and center on Farmacy Beauty’s website is this message: “Yes, we’re “clean,” but it’s time to be conscious, too — of what we put in and leave out of our formulas and of our responsibility to better the future for our planet and the people on it. We believe you reap what you sow, so we’re planting the seeds of change with skincare, sustainability, and food security for all.” Their goal is for all their packaging to be 100% waste-free by 2022 and they believe that only the most natural ingredients should go into their products. They also are on a mission to help Mother Earth, its animals, and its people. To do so, all their products are cruelty-free and they have partnered with Feeding America, an organization that provides fresh, healthy meals to people in the U.S. and Canada in order to eradicate hunger. 4. Athr Beauty is bringing all the good vibes. Their founder, Tiila Abbitt, is on a mission to cleanse our chakras and our bodies with her clean, vegan, and cruelty-free products that are good for the planet in every way. She will not launch a new product unless they have the best sustainable solution for that product, and her team does countless research to make sure they are producing the most environmentally friendly products and packaging possible. All of Athr’s products are 100% recyclable and made with recyclable materials so they never have to end up in a landfill. They donate a portion of their sales to environmental charities as well in the fight to leave our planet a better place than we found it.

  5. Behind Axiology’s bold lip colors is a bold statement: “Makeup for the post-waste generation.” Scrolling at the bottom of their site are the words “BUNNIES OVER PROFITS” and in addition to being cruelty-free and vegan, all their cosmetics have 10 ingredients or less. They are plastic-free in almost all their packaging, instead of wrapping their products in recycled paper waste. Their boxes “clean the ocean,” as they are made from literal waste products found in oceans and recycled into beautiful boxes to hold their products. How cool! Adding to their coolness is the ability to try a lipstick or crayon color before you buy it—for only $2! Check out all their colorful creations here.

There’s no doubt about it—the beauty industry is filled with brands whose missions are not for profit, but for change. Companies like these give hope for a healthy future for our planet and all who live here
